How to use Automated Emails on your Squarespace Website 〰️

When you're a small business owner, your time can be limited when creating your products or offering your services. Planning out your marketing can feel like a real mission, but you can save a lot of time with the right systems in place.

You can streamline your email marketing operations and improve customer experience with automated emails.

An automated email is written in advance and automatically sent when a customer takes a specific action. From abandoned cart reminders to thank you notes after completing a purchase, automated emails are a strategic way to deepen relationships with your customers online

Here is a guide on how to use Automated Emails on your Squarespace website.

Outline your goals

Decide what you want your automated emails to achieve with your customers. For example, you might reward your subscribers by sending a discount code, recommending products after a customer completes a purchase, asking customers for feedback or reviews, send an email checking in with subscribers after a set amount of time.

Choose one goal and focus your email messaging around that, so recipients understand the purpose of your communication.

Choose or customize a template

Most email marketing platforms offer a wide range of email templates, which can be used as-is or customized with your brand style. Once you choose a template and update the message, you can send it to any person whose action triggers the automated email —no need to update your email content before it goes out manually.

Time it right

The timing of an email is crucial. Think about how you like businesses to communicate with you via email after you've provided them with your email details.

Think about how much time makes sense to leave in between sends for campaigns with multiple emails? Test different approaches over time and then dive into your email analytics to see your email open rates. Even the number of unsubscribes you receive tells you which approaches work best with your audience.

Types of Automated Emails

Here are some common types of emails that we believe you’d benefit from

  • Welcome Emails are a great way to connect with new leads and customers. A friendly hello to connect with them and encourage them to interact with your products or service. Your welcome email should be informative and actionable i.e. Thank you for Subscribing to your website. As a thanks, here’s 10% off your next purchase”.

How to set up your Automated Emails

  2. Click Automation and select a Campain type that best suits your automation. (Subscriber Activity or Customer Activity - you’ll notice the difference between both options).

  3. Choose a Template type that best suits the type of email you’re sending i.e. and then choose from the various styled templates available.
Once you’ve chosen a template, remember to change it to suit your branding style, under the style tab option.

  4. Once it’s ready to send - click the Email tab, and under the Automation Option - choose the trigger that best suits your email i.e. customer subscribers, after a purchase.

  5. Set the timing of when the email goes out to the customer i.e. immediately, 1 day later or custom timing.

  6. Then go back to the email section to set the Automation Subject and Preview text. (Makes this catchy enough for someone to want to open it. Just think about some of the emails you get from some of your favourite stores when they have sales.
